The Epidemiology Program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Genetic Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer in which there is a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment.
The successful candidate will work with a trans-disciplinary team of investigators who are members of a highly interactive prostate cancer research program. A major focus of the current research is on genetic susceptibility, gene-environment interactions, and epigenomics in the development and progression of prostate cancer. The incumbent will assume responsibility for analyses of epidemiological, genetic, epigenetic and gene expression data from population-based case-control studies, a population-based cohort of prostate cancer patients, and a study of high-risk hereditary prostate cancer families. They will assist in the analyses of genetic variants in relation to prostate cancer risk and outcomes, genome-wide association and linkage studies, analyses of next-generation sequencing data, and analyses of genome-wide DNA methylation and gene expression data. They will also help with development of new grants, initiation of new projects, perform literature reviews, generate and summarize research findings, and prepare manuscripts for publication.
This position requires a highly motivated individual with a PhD in Epidemiology or in a related discipline that provides a strong foundation in molecular and/or statistical genetics, and an interest in prostate cancer genetics, genomics and molecular biology. Experience in genetic epidemiology, cancer epidemiology, molecular biology and knowledge of R/Bioconductor would be a strong advantage. Previous experience with handling high-dimensional data is desired as well an understanding of how to interpret the biological effects of the results, especially with genetic data involving familial studies. Strong organizational and analytical skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and knowledge of SAS/STATA are necessary. Please note that this is not a bench-research position.
