Although by definition all epidemiologic research ultimately seeks to reduce differences in health, Health Disparities Research in particular seeks to identify and reduce gaps in the quality of health and health care across racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic groups. In particular, research is conducted to identify ways to improve the health of traditionally disadvantaged or underserved populations.
