The research in the Department of Epidemiology is highly enhanced by our partnerships with other excellent research organizations in the Puget Sound region. Some of our faculty are involved in Interdisciplinary research projects with other departments and institutes.
- Center
for AIDS and STD Research (CFAR) (UW & FHCRC)
The Center for AIDS and STD Research (CFAR), established in July, 1989, provides patient care, research, training and education, and international technical assistance for HIV/AIDS and STD. The Center is administered by the UW in collaboration with several other institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest and in several other countries.

- Cardiovascular Health Research Unit
The Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU) is a joint program of the University of Washington and Group Health (GH). This research program seeks to further the development and application of knowledge related to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

The Center for Genomics and Public Health (CGPH) integrates advances in genetic technology into public health practice and offer research and educational opportunities for public health students and professionals.

The mission of the Center is to advance and promote public health practice to improve nutrition and reduce obesity.

- Center for Obesity Research (UW-COR)
The mission of the Center for Obesity Research (UW-COR) is to foster research that integrates the biomedical, public health, and policy aspects of the obesity epidemic. Work is conducted to create interdisciplinary research teams and cross-agency collaborations to leverage the strengths, concepts, and skills of multiple areas of expertise in order to pursue innovative systems-level strategies for obesity prevention.

- Craniofacial
Center at Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center
The multidisciplinary team at the Craniofacial Center provides diagnosis and long-term management for children with craniofacial abnormalities. They treat children born with conditions such as cleft lip and palate and craniosynostosis. They provide state-of-the-art care for children with craniofacial malformation.

- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic & Prevention
Network (FAS)
The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic & Prevention Network is dedicated to the screening, diagnosis and prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). They have developed a comprehensive method for diagnosing the full spectrum of disorders associated with fetal alcohol exposure and has developed a computerized FAS facial photographic screening tool.

- Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) is a medical research institution dedicated to eliminating cancer and related diseases as caused of death and suffering. Each of the Center’s four divisions, Basic Sciences, Human Biology, Clinical Research and Public Health Sciences, are world leaders and have many seminal contributions to their credit. They are also heavily involved in collaborations with the community. They partner with health-care organizations around the region to promote participation in clinical and prevention trials, which are essential to developing better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention Research Programs of the Public Health Sciences Division provide rich training opportunities for MPH, MS and PhD students enrolled in the UW Department of Epidemiology.
- Epidemiology Program
The major goals of the Program in Epidemiology are to identify causes of human cancer, develop effective prevention strategies and improve our understanding of the basic mechanisms that lead to cancer. The investigators and projects within the Program also provide rich training opportunities for MPH, MS and PhD students enrolled in the Epidemiology Department at the University of Washington.

The Cancer Prevention Research Program was built on the assumptions that changing lifestyle or environment during childhood and/or adult life can lower cancer incidence, that health behavior can be permanently changed, and that broad changes in cancer-related health behaviors can be made and maintained at the community level.

- Group Health
Group Health based in Seattle, is a consumer-governed, nonprofit health care system. Begun in 1947, Group Health today provides coverage and care for almost 540,000 people in Washington and Idaho. Dr. Jackson's research interests focus on the epidemiology of infectious diseases. Principal areas of interest include the association between C. pneumoniae and atherosclerotic disease and vaccine related research. The later category includes evaluations of vaccine safety, vaccine efficacy and the epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases.

Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC) is one of the premier institutions researching how and why people suffer injuries and what can be done to prevent them.

- Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) Research Group
The Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) Research Group is comprised of a variety of researchers from several institutions in Western Washington and Senegal, Africa that include the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the University of Dakar.

- Institute for Public Health Genetics (IPHG)
The mission of the Institute of Publish Health Genetics is to provide broad, interdisciplinary training for future public health professionals, to facilitate research in public health genetics, and to serve as a resource for continuing professional education.

- National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC)
The National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) was established by the National Institute on Aging in 1999 to facilitate collaborative research among the 29 NIA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Centers (ADCs) nationwide. NACC developed and maintains a large relational database of standardized clinical and neuropathological research data collected from each ADC, and this database provides a valuable resource for both exploratory and explanatory Alzheimer's disease research.

- Northwest Center for Public Practice
The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice is dedicated to providing a link between public health practitioners and the academic community.
- Snohomish Health District
Snohomish Health District is the local public health agency for Snohomish County. They have 226 public health professionals that work for a safer and healthier community through essential programs and services

- Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC)
The Seattle ERIC is a collaboration between the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and the University of Washington. The Center's overall mission is to improve the health and health care of veterans by promoting the principles and practice of state-of-the-art epidemiologic research within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
