Creating
Distance Learning Courses
Lesson Five
Quiz Preparation Lesson
Overview
In this
lesson you will prepare for and take a quiz on your learning to date.
Introduction
Congratulations
on completing Lessons One through Five. You covered a lot of ground in
two+ hours. You've managed to explore and discuss:
- the
unique dynamics of teaching and learning at a distance;
- the nature
and demographics of distance learners;
- differing
formats for course discussion;
- using
technology for collaboration and feedback;
- the
unique characteristics of the distance learning course development
process; and
- best
practices in instructional design and assessment.
The Lesson
Six quiz will cover all of these topic areas.
Types
of questions
The quiz
will include multiple choice and short answer questions. The short answer
questions require a succinct, specific response of about one paragraph.
Exam
conditions
You will
be taking the quiz online in the workshop computer lab. This informal
assessment is for your own use in gauging your learning to date, so you
are welcome to refer to any of the print or electronic workshop materials
while taking the quiz. However, you have only eight minutes to complete
the quiz - generally not enough time to make extensive reference to workshop
materials. So you'll want to review before you attempt the quiz.
Tips
on how to prepare
Open each
lesson and skim its narrative contents, making special note of basic concepts
and principles. These are often reflected as terms in headlines, bold
print, or bulleted lists. Look at provided examples or additional references
as needed to make concepts and principles clear to you, but don't study
these in detail.

Summary
The information
and activities in this workshop have helped you to:
- experience
several kinds of electronic teaching and learning environments;
- familiarize
yourself with basic distance learning concepts;
- interact
among yourselves and with a faculty mentor; and
- consider
application to your own courses.
WebQ Quiz
WebQ
is an survey tool that can be used to conduct online quizzes, surveys
or questionnaires.You can create a WebQ using True/false, multiple
choice, short answer, essay, and other question formats. Your WebQ
can be enhanced with images, diagrams, equations, or other multimedia.
If you wish, you may make your WebQ time-limited. Results can be
viewed in HTML, or you can download them for use in Excel or SPSS. Take
a few minutes to browse the description of WebQ.
When you
are familiar with the tool and have reviewed the course materials as suggested
above, go to the workshop
quiz.

for your time today. We've enjoyed this opportunity to meet, interact,
and learn together. Please exit the course (logoff from UW Online)
and return to the workshop Web page, where you'll find the link to complete
and submit your WebQ
evaluation of the workshop.
This workshop
is offered once a year. Please refer your colleagues who are budding developers.
