Li Bo
The Ethnomusicology Program is pleased to welcome Li
Bo as a new Visiting Artist for the 2007-2008 year. Li Bo is a master
of the morin khurr, the horse head fiddle of Inner Mongolia.

Uday Bhawalkar
Uday Bhawalkar joins us for a second year as a Visiting Artist during
Winter and Spring quarters 2008. Uday Bhawalkar, an
accomplished musician from India, specializes in the Dhrupad vocal
tradition. In addition to early training at the Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Academy, he studied
with Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar at the Dhrupad Kendra, Bhopal, and later continued his training under the elder brother
of Fariduddin, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the renowned Veena maestro.
He has been awarded a National Scholarship and Junior Fellowship from the cultural department of the
Government of India. He gave his first performance at Bhopal in 1985 and since then has performed at many prominent
music festivals in India, the United States, and elsewhere.
Note: During Fall quarter 2007 dhrupad vocalist Arijit Mahalanabis will
fill in for Uday Bhawalkar.
Bartholomew Komoah
We also welcome graduate student instructor Bartholomew Komoah, who will
teach the Gyil xylophone tradition of the Dagarti of Ghana.
Our visiting artists and graduate student instructor offer formal instruction
