UW Ethnomusicology -

The Northwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology welcomes participation by members and other interested individuals in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Alberta. The chapter convenes each spring for a 1-2 day meeting including formal papers, panels, performances, and opportunities for socializing. The location of the annual meeting changes year to year; recent meetings have been hosted by the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, B.C.), the University of Washington (Seattle, WA), the University of Oregon (Eugene, OR), the Evergreen State College (Olympia, WA), and the University of Victoria (Victoria, BC).

CHAPTER NEWS

Congratulations to Shalini Ayyagari, recipient of the 2008 Thelma Adamson Prize for best student paper presented at the 2008 chapter meeting. Her paper was titled "Spaces Betwixt and Between: Musical Borderlands and the Theory That Makes Them So (Rajasthan, India)."

The 2009 annual meeting of the PNW Chapter of SEM will be held at the University of Washington, Seattle. Watch this site for more information in late 2008.

Student presenters are eligible to receive the Thelma Adamson Prize, awarded for the best student paper given at each year's meeting. Students presenting papers should see the Guidelines for Thelma Adamson Prize
