Community Trainer/Health Education Advocate Position Description

Call for Recommendations:

The project "Accessing Online Information for Immigrant and Refugee Health" is looking for people to fill the temporarily-paid positions of community trainers/health education advocates. The trainer/advocate is a community resource person who will help increase their community’s access to health information that can be found online. Specifically, the trainer/advocate will:

  1. Attend classes to learn how to access online health information
  2. Advertise and use their knowledge as a service to their community
  3. Teach at least one class to other community members about how to find health information
  4. Offer to find health information for others
  5. Help evaluate the training process and content, and give feedback about health information needs and the information found online for your community

Community Organizations and Harborview’s Caseworker Cultural Mediators are being asked to make recommendations of people in their communities who are qualified and able to perform the responsibilities of the job as described above 1-5. The following are

suggested criteria for making recommendations.

Recommend persons who are:

  1. Independently committed to community service and community education
  2. Bilingual
  3. Skilled in basic computer use
  4. Interested in health information
  5. Able to accept a position that is temporary and part-time during a 3-4 month period, January – April 2002, for approximately 10 hours/month.
  6. Able to accept a position that will pay $15/hr for 20 hours of work, and that will require an additional 10 hours (minimum) of volunteer work.
  7. Not already employed in a community service role that may conflict with fulfilling the role and responsibilities of the trainer/advocate.

A volunteer training coordinator will contact you to receive recommendations during the month of January 2002, or you may return the completed recommendation and application forms directly to the project coordinator.
