The Pharmacotherapeutic Weekend Workshop

These weekend pharmacotherapy workshops are designed to build skills--not content. We want to develop and observe problem-solving and communication skills. During the weekend, we use various activities and exercises to reach these objectives. Some students may be uncomfortable because they are used to knowledge--hearing a number of facts--being the primary goal of an educational session. It is our belief that the workshops are the best way to model and teach the problem-solving, communication, and discipline-specific skills necessary for a successful pharmacy practice. The weekend workshops are based on the idea that you learn best when you are actively involved. It is the process used during these weekend workshops that is critical to their success. These are not lectures. We will provide you with activities where you will be instructing each other. Our faculty will be facilitators who are also content experts. Almost all of what you do will be group exercises.

Here is the schedule of the two-day weekend workshops. Each workshop emphasizes the integration and utilization of knowledge of drug therapy in professional practice. Students must demonstrate mastery of the knowledge component before attending the workshop.

Most workshops will be held over 12 hours, all on Saturday beginning at 8 am and going until 8 pm. A few workshops will begin at 9 am on Saturday morning, 8 am on Sunday morning, and conclude at 5 pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday. You should expect to have pre-workshop homework and assignments for Saturday evening. Each instructor decides what is best for his or her topic. You can expect to know whether a specific workshop is a one-day version about two months before it is scheduled.

Click here for our workshop attendance policy. If you cannot attend a workshop after being placed on the attendance list, you MUST inform the director earlier than three (3) weeks before the scheduled workshop AND before assignments are made. Also you must plan on attending the workshop for all 12 hours. Please do not ask to leave early!
