Course Credit Information
Exploration Seminars allow you to take a 5-credit course before regular fall quarter classes begin, which will appear on your Autumn transcript.*
Students participating in early fall programs at the University of Washington will be enrolled in a UW "FSTDY" course for autumn quarter. FSTDY 3XX (300, 301, 302, etc.) is a place-holder course that will keep students enrolled and active in the UW system while they are studying abroad. This will be converted to a standard course prefix and assigned a grade by the end of fall quarter, once grades are submitted. The credit/no-credit (S/NS) option is available pursuant to standard UW policies (click for S/NS form).
In many cases Exploration Seminars offer specific credits that can be applied to UW major and minor requirements, as well as general education requirements. Check the program description and consult with your program director and departmental advisor to determine credit applicability for your individual program of study, especially for programs offering more than one credit option, which many do.
Note: Exploration Seminars operate on a self-sustaining basis and involve an additional cost to tuition. Because you have paid an additional fee for your Exploration Seminar, you may enroll in up to 18 credits during the Autumn Quarter without having to pay additional costs beyond Autumn Quarter tuition. You may likewise enroll for as few as 7 credits during the regular autumn term and be considered a full time student for fall quarter.
