Eligibility & Prerequisites
Exploration Seminars are open to students from all areas of study, and from any of the three University of Washington campuses. All courses are conducted in English and unless otherwise noted in the program description, there are no specific prerequisites or other requirements for participation (language skills, minimum GPA, major, etc) .
- For standard participation in Early Fall programs, you must be enrolling for Autumn Quarter 2010
- If you are graduating before the quarter to which a program corresponds, you must particiapte as nonmatriculated student (see below)
Admission to Exploration Seminars is competitive, and acceptance/admission for most programs is first-come, first-served, and at the sole discretion of individual program directors, based upon academic goals and progress, their application essay (which includes a short statement of intent), desired balance among participants, and in most cases through an interview with program directors.
Because most Exploration Seminars offer upper-division undergraduate credits, priority is given to undergraduate sophomores, juniors and seniors. Admission to graduate and non-matriculated students is made on a space-available basis, and at the sole discretion of program directors.
Non-matriculated students: Students from other institutions, and students who have graduated may participate as non-matriculated students. Anyone applying as a non-matriculated student (anyone who will not be enrolled at the UW in fall quarter following the program) will be subject to an additional $200 non-matriculated student fee, and must pay all program fees up-front upon the processing of a payment contract.
To register for an Exploration Seminar as a non-matriculated student, participants must:
- Complete a "Non-matriculated Application for non-UW students" (http://www.ipe.washington.edu/forms/NonMatricApplication.pdf) and submit this form to the International Programs Office (Schmitz 459 or fax to: 206-221-0218) by May 1.
- Pay a $200 fee to complete your non-matriculated registration with the University. This charge will be added to your UW student account (see below).
- Pay all Exploration Seminar program fees by June 6 (instead of following the regular payment schedule).
The application for non-matriculated status allows non-UW/graduated students to register for and participate in an Exploration Seminar program. Upon complete of the non-matriculated application, you will receive an email from the Exploration Seminar office with instructions for how to set up your MyUW student account, and you will use this account to make program payments and obtain enrollment and credit information.
