Enrollment for Exploration Seminars
Enrollment Process: Students participating in Exploration Seminars will be enrolled by the Exploration Seminar office. Students do not register for these programs/courses using MYUW, as they do for typical campus courses. Students who have submitted a contract for an Exploration Seminar will be enrolled in credits for their program by June 1.
Choosing Credits: Many Exploration Seminars offer more than one credit option, in which case students choose which credits they would like to receive. To see the credit options for your program, please review the program's web page. All participants will be sent an email to their registered email address with an invitation to choose, via an online survey, their preferred credit option for their program. Students who fail to respond to this survey by May 15 will be registered in the default credit option for the program. Click here for more information on credits.
Registration Holds: Students who have registration holds on their records cannot be registered for program credits. Likewise, financial aid cannot be disbursed to students with holds on their records. It is the responsibility of students to make sure all fines, blocks and holds are removed from their UW accounts in order to be registered. For more information on registration holds, please see: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/regrest.html. The Exploration Seminar is not responsible for notifying students of holds, for removing holds, or for any enrollement issues or delays resulting from holds on students' records. Please make sure you do not have a hold on your record if you are planning to participate in an Exploration Seminar.
Enrollment for Summer Term Programs: All summer (A & B) term programs offer 6 credits. Some of these programs will offer 6 credits of one course. Others will offer 5 credits in one course, plus 1 credit of General Studies 392. This is because some courses allow a maximum of 5 credits to be earned, in which case the supplementary 6th credit will be added to your enrollment.
Graduate Students: In some cases, graduate students participating in Exploration Seminars will receive fewer than 5 credits when opting for graduate level credits (500 and above) for which the standard credit offering is less than five.
Non-matriculated (non-UW) students: All students who are not enrolled and working toward a degree at the University of Washington during the academic term of their Exploration Seminar are considered non-matriculated students. For early fall Exploration Seminars, the corresponding academic term is autumn quarter, which starts after the program is completed. This also applies to UW students who are graduating before their Exploration Seminar.
To register for an Exploration Seminar as a non-matriculated student, participants must:
- Complete a "Non-matriculated Application for non-UW students" (http://www.ipe.washington.edu/forms/NonMatricApplication.pdf) and submit this form to the International Programs Office (459 Schmitz Hall or fax to: 206-221-0218) by May 1.
- Pay a $200 fee to complete your non-matriculated registration with the University. This charge will be added to your UW student account (see below).
- Pay all Exploration Seminar program fees by June 6 (instead of following the regular payment schedule).
The application for non-matriculated status allows non-UW/graduated students to register for and participate in an Exploration Seminar program. Upon complete of the non-matriculated application, you will receive an email from the Exploration Seminar office with instructions for how to set up your MyUW student account, and you will use this account to make program payments and obtain enrollment and credit information.
