Orientation & Pre-travel Preparation for Exploration Seminars
Pre-travel orientation and preparation is critical for a successful and safe study abroad experience. The resources below introduce students to the opportunities and challenges inherent in study abroad programs. The University and program directors will work with you to prepare for your travel and study experience.
Still, getting ready requires some work on your part, depending on your individual needs, concerns, plans and destination. The resources below will help you prepare for your program, cope with cultural, logistical and safety challenges abroad, and make the most of your study abroad experience both while there and after your return home.
Pre-Travel To-do's and Orientation Process:
- Mandatory: you must take the online pre-departure orientation
- Highly Recommended: Health Disclosure form - complete and submit to your program director.
- Recommended: Travel health screening (free at Hall Health for UW Seattle students). Click link for more info. Recommended: Global Scholar Study Abroad pre-travel course
- Group Orientation: Your faculty director(s) will arrange group meetings prior to the start of the program to orient you to the administrative, logistical, academic and other aspects of your program. Be sure to attend these critical meetings, and be sure to always ask questions when you have them. If you can't get your questions answered by talking to your director or reviewing our other resources, please contact us!
- Student Code of Conduct: You are responsible for reading, knowing and abiding by the UW student code of conduct while participating in any UW study abroad program.
