Leadership Programs

UW Medicine Leadership Scholars

The University of Washington Medicine Leadership Scholar Group was started in February 2005 with funding and support from Paul Ramsey, MD, Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine, Dean of Medicine and John Coombs, Associate Vice President for Clinical Systems and Community Relations, Associate Dean of Regional Affairs and Rural Health, Professor of Family Medicine.

The course program has been organized by

  • Chris Surawicz (Assistant Dean for Faculty Development),
  • Emily Wong, (Assistant Chair for Practice Management, Department of Medicine), and
  • Jessie Garcia (Assistant Director Training and Development).

A first cohort of thirty faculty from 23 departments has been meeting for skill development, a full day and two half day skill building session and lunches with Dean Ramsey , and has formed subgroups to tackle issues crucial to University of Washington Medicine and academic success.

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women

The ELAM Program focuses on the organization and structure of academic medical centers. Major topics include financial analysis, strategic planning, and mechanisms to effect change in academic medical centers.
