Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Curriculum for Addiction
Professionals: Level 2, was developed as a joint project of the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Fetal Alcohol
Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Center for Excellence and the National
Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS). The curriculum aims to
help addiction professionals prevent, recognize and address FADS. It is
intended as a training for social workers, certified addiction counselors,
psychologists, psychiatrists, and others in the treatment and recovery
field. This curriculum has been designed for professionals who work with
men, women, and adolescents in treatment, though some of the competencies
(e.g., Prevention) focus on issues specific to women.

The FASD Ontario Justice Committee (members of the FASD Stakeholders of
Ontario) has developed this website with funding from the Public Health
Agency of Canada, as a resource for justice system professionals and
others who are grappling to understand FASD. They hope that this website
will put case law, legal resources, background information, and practical
tips close at hand. They also hope that it will offer strategies for
dealing with the unique problems presented by offenders, victims and witnesses
with FASD in compassionate, fair and effective ways.
This website is a Canadian resource. However, at this point in time,
the community resources listed on the site are mainly Ontario resources,
since it is developed by FASD Ontario Justice Committee members. In time
and with input from the users of the site, they will expand their list.
