Billings Family Medicine Residency
20 residents, 10 faculty members, and a variety of support personnel staff the Montana Family Medicine Residency (MFMR). Students will do one of two rotations both based out of the Community Health Center where MFMR is based. Students spend two weeks in the outpatient CHC clinic, two weeks with the inpatient Family Medicine Service hospital team and two weeks with another outpatient Family Medicine clinic affiliated with one of the local hospitals. The alternative rotation involves the 1st and 6th week at the CHC, with the middle four weeks spent at an outpatient Family Medicine clinic that practices full scope care, where inpatient medicine is available. Preceptors at all sites have extensive experience teaching, and many are affiliated with UWSOM. During inpatient experiences, students will admit and care for a limited number of hospital patients. Students are expected to participate in educational meetings/Wednesday afternoon didactics at the residency
The Billings area abounds with many excellent recreational opportunities including Yellowstone National Park, hiking, skiing, fishing, kayaking, mountain and road bicycling, golf, and tennis. There are many good local restaurants and micro-breweries as well. For more information go to the Billings Track website at www.billingstrack.org
At the residency clinic (a community health clinic and patient-centered medical home), students see a mix of family medicine patients including lower income and the underserved. At the local hospital affiliated clinics, students will see a more typical mixture of outpatient populations.
You may take short call with the inpatient team for during your two hospital based weeks. Call rooms are available in the hospital if needed; some call may be taken from home at the discretion of the supervising physician/residents
