FAMED 688: Family Medicine Sub-Internship
As a visiting student, the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network can seem a bit more complex. A major benefit to the Residency Network is that there are 18 programs across 5 states, serving many different interests and offering experiences in a wide variety of settings. Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Steps for Application for Visiting Students
NOTE: APPLICATIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL MID-MARCH
- Visit the residency network’s program overview page, considering both the calendar and programs’ specific offerings to find the right fit for you.
- Contact the program to see if there are openings during the four week block you are available to schedule the Sub-I. If your first choice program seems to be full, consider one of the other top notch network programs.
- Once an arrangement has been made with a residency site, visit the UW Medical School’s Visiting Students page, complete the application and HIPAA training. You will need to apply at least two months in advance of your rotation. Be sure to contact the visiting student coordinator, visitstu@u.washington.edu, with any questions or concerns.
- Double check the program's description to note whether or not the program requires additional information. If you aren't sure, contact the program to find out and be sure to send anything else required to that program directly. You will not be accepted or registered for the course without it.
- When HIPAA has been completed, your application approved, and the program's specific requirements met, you will be registered for the course. You will receive an e-mail confirming your course registration.
- Dropping the rotation should only be done in extreme cases. If such circumstances arise that require you to drop the rotation, please contact both the program and Lisa Balloun at lballoun@fammed.washingtn.edu.
