CENTRAL WASHINGTON FAMILY MEDICINE

SITE COORDINATORS: Tanny Davenport, MD and April Yates Hardy, MSOD

GENERAL INFORMATION

Eighteen residents and nine family medicine faculty with a full complement of other health professionals staff the Central Washington Family Medicine (CWFM) clinic. The clinic and residency program are services of Community Health of Central Washington (CHCW), a Federally Qualified Health Center that receives federal funding to provide care to Medicaid and Medicare populations. CHCW is located in a health provider shortage area with a diverse population including significant Hispanic and Native American populations. The mission of the clinic is to serve the needs of these underserved and rural populations. The student spends the majority of time in the clinic, but also is involved in hospital care at two community hospitals. One week may be spent at the Toppenish Indian Health Services site. Call averages once per week and includes emergency room evaluations and admissions. Educational activities include community service organization site visits, hospital-based lectures, procedures in the clinic, and residency didactics. Yakima is located 2 1/2 hours east of Seattle in the foothills of the Cascades. Hiking, skiing and fishing are minutes away. Multitudes of wineries are available for touring, and plenty of sunshine is available year round.
