GENERAL INFORMATION

Practice: The Family Medicine Clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis is a few miles south of Tacoma. The clinic is located within the hospital and is staffed by 16 faculty, 18 residents, and nurses and medical assistants. Clinic facilities include exam rooms, administrative offices, lab, minor surgery rooms, colposcopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy suites, and a conference room. The majority of time will be spent in the ambulatory clinic. Night call consists of phone triage, emergency room evaluations and hospital admissions. There is a daily morning report followed by a 20-minute didactic session. Students present a topic of their interest during one of these time periods. During Family Medicine Grand Rounds, scheduled Wednesday mornings, topics are covered in greater detail by a specialty department. One week will be spent on the Family Medicine In-patient Team.

Faculty: MAJ Al Tiu, MD, site coordinator, is responsible for the student program. Please call him prior to your rotation to make preliminary arrangements. At least one faculty member or senior resident will always supervise the student.

Housing: One-bedroom apartment. No children. No pets.

Transportation: Car required. Proof of auto insurance and vehicle registration is necessary.
