POCATELLO

SITE COORDINATOR: ANDREW THAYNE, MD

GENERAL INFORMATION
Students regularly work with two family physicians in the practice and may spend an occasional half-day with other local physicians. This practice demonstrates the major contribution that a group of family physicians can make to health care in a moderate-sized town and adjacent rural areas, which lack physicians. Students are on call once a week until 10 pm and may work an occasional evening clinic. The Pocatello medical community has an active series of didactic sessions. Students usually spend day a week at the Pocatello Family Medicine Residency.

Intermountain Medical Clinic is a multi-specialty partnership practice. All students will be assigned to work at least five weeks in this busy practice. In it you will see the full range of patients and problems and participate in its active in-patient practice. Family practitioners in the group have developed special practice emphases including diabetes, female medicine and obstetrics.

There is one hospital with two campuses in Pocatello to which faculty admit patients: Portneuf Medical Center.

Pocatello is a small, but growing city, population 60,000. The major economic base of the community is light manufacturing and industry, and agriculture.
