The goal of the Introductory Preceptorship in Family Medicine is to introduce students to the Family Medicine approach to patient care as exemplified by the below components:
- Comprehensive Care
- Biopsychosocial Aspects of Care
- Continuity of Care
Students will meet this goal by achieving the below learning objectives for this course:
- Apply the history and physical exam skills from ICM to the evaluation of adult, pediatric and pregnant patients in an ambulatory setting.
- Apply the history and physical exam skills from ICM to the evaluation of acute and chronic medical problems and to the provision of preventive medicine services.
- Discuss the role of continuity of care in family medicine with your preceptor and the patients you encounter.
- Explore the role of family medicine in providing care to patients in the modern day healthcare system.
