The goal of the Introductory Preceptorship in Family Medicine is to introduce students to the Family Medicine approach to patient care as exemplified by the below components:

  • Comprehensive Care

  • Biopsychosocial Aspects of Care
  • Continuity of Care

Students will meet this goal by achieving the below learning objectives for this course:

  1. Apply the history and physical exam skills from ICM to the evaluation of adult, pediatric and pregnant patients in an ambulatory setting.

  2. Apply the history and physical exam skills from ICM to the evaluation of acute and chronic medical problems and to the provision of preventive medicine services.
  3. Discuss the role of continuity of care in family medicine with your preceptor and the patients you encounter.
  4. Explore the role of family medicine in providing care to patients in the modern day healthcare system.
