- Attend a course orientation New students are expected to attend this session. Strategies for getting the most out of your preceptorship experience will be discussed. The Learning Plan form and our journaling assignment will also be discussed. Please refer to Meeting Dates for our orientation dates.
- Attend at least 8 half-day sessions during the quarter with your preceptor Students are matched with preceptors on a first-come first-served basis. If you have not heard from the 501 coordinator by the orientation session regarding your match, please contact at fm501@fammed.washington.edu or (206) 543-9425. As part of the matching process, the program staff will contact your preceptor to confirm their availability. It is your responsibility to call the preceptor to set up your first meeting date and time. If you are having any difficulty contacting your preceptor in the week following your match, please contact us at fm501@fammed.washington.edu.
- Complete the Learning Plan form with your preceptor at your first meeting and review it at your fourth meeting This form is a template for you and your preceptor to decide what topics and skills will be covered during the preceptorship. At your first meeting with your preceptor, discuss with your preceptor those items that you would like to work on. During your fourth meeting with your preceptor, you and your preceptor will review what you've accomplished and the learning objectives you have left to work on. You will be expected to turn in this form at the time of the midquarter review session.
- Complete the four art of family medicine assignments As part of this course, we will be examining the issue of helping patients to improve their health through the use of self management goals. Students will be asked to pick a personal health behavior that they would like to adopt and journal their experience with adopting and maintaining this behavior.
- Attend the Course Wrap up session The purpose of this session is to reflect on what you have seen and done during the preceptorship and share your views and questions. Preceptors will be invited to participate in this session.
- Complete a final evaluation of the course Your evaluation of our course helps us to ensure a high quality experience for preceptors and students alike.
