- The 699 course is offered in two or four week schedule blocks. Review the Clinical Block Schedule for a possible time frame you would be available to do your 699 clerkship.
- Next, review the Residency Network programs for specific offerings to find the right fit for you. Keep in mind that you may do your externship in community sites not listed on the Residency Network page. It will be your responsibility to seek out these opportunities.
- Contact the program you are interested in to see if there is an opening during the time when you are also available.
- After you have been accepted to do an externship, you will need to then visit the UW Medical School's Visiting Students website and complete the application, including the HIPAA training requirements. Be sure to contact the visiting student coordinator at visitstu@u.washington.edu with any questions or concerns.
- Check with the clinical site to find out whether or not they require additional information. You will not be accepted or registered for the course without meeting their requisites.
- When your HIPAA requirements have been fulfilled, your application approved, and the program's specific requirements met, you will be contacted by the Electives Coordinator at the Department of Family Medicine, to confirm your dates and register you for the course. You will also receive an e-mail confirming your course registration from the Dean's office.
**Please note that dropping the rotation should only be done in extreme cases only. If such circumstances arise that require you to drop the rotation, please contact both the program and the Electives Coordinator in the Department of Family Medicine 206.543.9425.
