Biographical Information

Davis Patterson is a sociologist and a Research Scientist in the University of Washington's WWAMI Rural Health Research Center and Center for Health Workforce Studies. He has two decades of experience in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research and evaluation spanning a variety of areas in healthcare, human services, and education. Dr. Patterson has conducted health workforce and rural health research on physicians, health information technology, allied health and other types of professionals to inform policy and improve rural and underserved populations' access to healthcare. His field research experience includes conducting interviews of over 500 persons from diverse cultures and from all walks of life, at home and abroad. He is an avid traveler and fluent in Spanish.


Research Interests & Roles

Health workforce development, with a particular focus on the recruitment and retention of rural and underrepresented minority health professionals, healthcare access and disparities, healthcare and public health workforce supply and demand analysis, emergency medical services, and community paramedicine.
