Making your Airplane Reservations to SeaTac Airport:
When scheduling your flight it is advisable to arrive in Seattle no later than 12:00 noon in order to arrive in Friday Harbor by late afternoon for registration and dinner. In making your return reservation, it is easiest to fly out from SeaTac Airport after 12:00 noon. (You can fly out earlier but you'll need to catch a very early ferry or plane from Friday Harbor.)
From SeaTac Airport to Friday Harbor and Return:
There are a number of ways to reach Friday Harbor from SeaTac Airport: plane, seaplane, shuttle and rental car.
Flying to Friday Harbor from Seattle:
If you are interested in flying from Seattle to Friday Harbor, you can choose between airplane or seaplane travel. Please check the website for Kenmore Air. (They provide shuttle transportation from SeaTac Airport to their point of departure.) It is advisable to book by PHONE as the Kenmore representative can assist with the shuttle connections and can arrange to have you fly one direction by seaplane and the other direction by a plane with wheels. This often helps to get the best flights that coordinate with your SeaTac flights.
If you prefer to book online:
For airplane travel, choose Seattle (Boeing Field) as your point of departure and Friday Harbor Airport as your destination.
For seaplane travel, choose Lake Union in Downtown Seattle as your point of departure and Friday Harbor Marina as your destination.
Shuttle Transportation to Friday Harbor from SeaTac Airport:
If you'd rather take a shuttle / ferry combination, there is van service from the airport to Friday Harbor (including ferry passage) using Islander Airporter. This service only operates once a day leaving the airport at noon. Another option is to use Airporter Shuttle which operates every 2 hours throughout the day but has a connection in Mt. Vernon.
Driving to Anacortes/ Friday Harbor:
Driving to Anacortes (ferry terminal for Friday Harbor) from Seattle takes approximately 2 hours. To check the current ferry schedule visit Washington State Ferries.
If you are bringing your car to Friday Harbor, you will need to arrive in Anacortes early (at least one - two hours).
There are pay parking lots at the ferry terminal where you can park your car and walk on the ferry. If the lower lots are full, there is additional parking up the hill (follow signs) but this is a 5-10 minute walk. Rates are available here but note summer prices are substantially higher than in the winter. "Walk on" tickets may be purchased in the waiting area. The ferry usually begins loading 15 minutes before departure.)
Transportation to and from the Labs:
We will be happy to transport you to and from the Labs once you arrive in Friday Harbor. Please send Rachel your itinerary and we'll pick you up.
