Scheduling

We have a new calendar system as of November 29th, 2011:

  • Scheduling Cell Sorting
  • Biosafety Table
  • Booking Analaysis Instruments

The cell sorting room H-581C is approved for work at Biosafety Level 1 and 2 (BSL-1 and BSL-2). Room H-581C is maintained under negative pressure relative to the larger lab space.  All cells exposed to or infected with bacterial or viral agents must be approved by EH&S on a case by case basis.

Approval to Sort

Please refer to the Sorting Requirements page for complete details on obtaining approval. Once a lab has recieved approval from EH&S user from that lab may sign up to sort in the facility.

The Aria’s require that you select the nozzle size and other options for sorting. They still require approval but will be visible once you enter a request.


The Canto 3 and LSRII have a HTS option, the default is NO:  if you are using the HTS select YES: and remember to add 30 minutes total (15 minutes setup and 15 minutes clean) to your scheduled time.


You can now send email reminders to yourself or send staff notifications about your scheduled time through the entry form. You can also subcribe to facility updates and instrument specific notifications. Use the Email Subscription function on the calendar.


When you are done using the calendar make sure to completely close your browser to logout if you are using a shared computer.

New Instrument Calendar

Sign up for sorting time in 15 minute increments, with an extra 15 minutes included at the end of the sort for decontamination and cleaning. 

  1. Sign-up information MUST include: user name, sample description, contact phone number and email.
  2. All BSL-2 sorts must also include a distinct BSL-2 notation as well as the PI name that the BUA approval is under. Please refere to the Biosafety Table for examples of samples that require BSL-2 containment and the safety requirements.
  3. Each entry is approved after the Facility Staff has looked at the request and made sure that there will be appropriate staff and all the required information is provided.

You MUST contact CAF staff at 543-7006 prior to scheduling a same day sort to ensure you can be accommodated.

All sorts scheduled are forwarded to the staff via e-mail for approval prior to appearing on the calendar. To expedite your request to reserve time provide detailed information regarding your sort including;

Once you have submitted a request that time slot is secured and will appear on the calendar after the staff verifies that you can be accommodated.

Please note the following:

If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, you will be charged for 1 hour of set-up time.

No shows will be charged for the full amount of time they have reserved.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

The analyzers are available to all users that have filled out the New User Form. Time is booked on a first come first served basis. All time is booked and billed in 15 minute increments. Staff is available to assist durring regular buisness hours. New users or those who require specific assistance should indicate that on the calendar when time is scheduled.

All BSL-2 samples should be fixed prior to arrival. If the samples cannot be fixed please contact the facility directly for further instructions. Refer to the Biosafety Table for more information and examples of samples requiring BSL-2 containment.

Samples should be already prepared in the user supplied appropriate tubes prior to arrival. Tubes are avaible in the facility for instrument cleaning and the occasional replacement of user tubes should one be damaged. Please refer to the FAQ page for sample preparation for more information.

Calendar Entry Instructions

The calendar will default to the current day. Choose the day you would like to schedule and appointment on the Menu bar. Once on the the correct day click on the "+" next to the instrument you would like to reserve (notice the arrow cursor changes to a finger), a pop-up window will appear. Fill out the form as indicated. Click the "Submit" button when you're done to post your information to the calendar.

Individual monthly calendars are available by clicking on the “Select” button on the Daily Schedule a popup window will open to select the monthly calendar needed. To schedule from the monthly calendars, click on the underlined number for the day , a list of already scheduled appointments will appear in a pop-up window. Click on "Create" a pop-up window like the one below will appear. Fill out the form as indicated. Click the "Submit" button when you're done to post your information to the calendar. * Reminder that time scheduled on the Aria's will not appear until the staff varifies we have all the needed information
