Research

Currently maintaining a position as a Research Technician. My research is to see if VS cells (vertical system cells in the lobula plate in the optic lobe of the fly brain) maintain synaptic connections to octopaminergic neurons in the the Drosophila brain. This can be done using the GRASP method which splits up GFP into complementary fragments. The fragments of GFP can be placed in different cells (in this case VS cells and octopaminergic cells) and will fluoresce where the two membranes come into contact. This fluorescence can be seen when imaged using the confocal microscope.
