8 moments capturing the YEOC March international session

The theatre was filled with energy, passion, and excitement during our March YEOC session. This month’s session was in the planning stages months in advance by YEOC mentors Melat Abraham, Hewan Solomon, and Idowu Jeremiah.

The students began the day with two workshop rotations: the first was a ‘Speed Networking’ event with YEOC mentors and UW students who have studied abroad, and a panel discussion with staff and students from the Certificate of International Business (CISB) program. Sue Borgman, Principal of Transaction Advisory Services at EY was our keynote speaker who shared her story about growing up in South Africa and how she’s learned that hard work is the core of success. The widely anticipated 4th Annual Cultural Showcase where mentors, mentees, and members of the UW community could share their culture to inspire high school students, kicked-off with a spoken word performance by UW alum, Troy Osaki. Other performances included:

  • Khmer Student Association, YEOC alum
  • Wole Akinlosotu, YEOC alum
  • Jonathan Nguyen, YEOC mentee
  • Groupo Folklorico Guadalajara
  • Mariama Sidibe, YEOC mentee
  • Team Ethiopia, YEOC alum
  • Frankie Godoy, YEOC mentor
  • Polynesian Student Alliance, UW Students
  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, UW Students
  • Angela Bonsum, UW student
  • Idowu Jeremiah, YEOC mentor

Whether they brought down the house with vocals, made us think twice through their words, and or just simply brought a smile to our face with dance, we want to thank all of those who participated in the Annual Cultural Showcase. Take a look at eight of our favorite moments from the YEOC March session below.
