Seattle Growth Podcast 2.8: what about a Key Arena remodel?

Three private groups are vying to invest roughly half a billion dollars into a sports and entertainment complex in Seattle that could become home court for the return of NBA basketball. Proposals include the construction of a new arena in Seattle’s Sodo neighborhood and the renovation of Key Arena, the former home of the Seattle SuperSonics in Seattle Center.

Episode 8 of the Seattle Growth Podcast, season 2, explores the Key Arena renovation option, as a decision from the city approaches.

Brian Surratt, director of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, discusses how the city is approaching a potential Key Arena renovation. Lance Lopes, director of special projects at the Oak View Group, outlines his organization’s intentions to submit a proposal for the old arena’s renovation.

And Debi Frausto, chair of the Key Arena subcommittee of the Seattle Uptown Alliance and a member of the Mayor’s Key Arena advisory panel, discusses the challenges and opportunities that an arena renovation would mean to surrounding neighborhoods.
