This year's selection, Field Notes from a Catastrophe, was distributed to approximately 5,500 new students this summer as part of their introduction to campus. Upon arrival at the University, students can find opportunities to engage in the themes and ideas of the book through classes, discussion, events, and activities.
The entire campus comes together to provide new opportunities for interaction, community-building, and fun.
For more than fifteen years, the UW's Freshman Interest Group (FIG) program has helped new freshmen register for their classes and make the UW just a bit smaller and more welcoming for autumn quarter.
The Freshman Seminar Program offers first-year students access to small, discussion-oriented classes that many UW students may not experience until they are juniors or seniors.
Husky Adventures are one-day excursions intended to give new students a chance to meet each other and get to know a professor in an informal off-campus setting.
Students enrolled in the RAC program will take courses together and live together in the same residential community throughout the entire academic year.
Trigs allow transfer students the opportunity to meet other students with the same academic interests.
First Year Programs empowers entering students to become engaged and confident learners by facilitating supportive communities and creating educational experiences.
