New Student Enrollment and Confirmation Fee
Upon confirming intent to enroll in a degree program, new undergraduate students at the University of Washington Seattle campus are required to pay a $250 New Student Enrollment & Orientation Fee (NSEOF). The NSEOF funds a variety of academic support services including Advising and Orientation, Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment (CLUE), and other transition services. The NSEOF is neither refundable nor transferable to another quarter or another student.
When do I pay the NSEOF?
The Enrollment Confirmation Form and payment (or deferral request — see below) are due by the date listed in your Admissions packet (no later than May 1, 2008 for incoming Autumn Freshmen). If your confirmation and payment are not received by the deadline, it is unlikely that you will be able to enroll at the UW.
How do I pay the NSEOF?
To Confirm Online (For Autumn Quarter Freshmen Only)
1. If you have not already done so during the admission process, you must create your UWNetID and email account.
2. You may pay the NSEOF by web check only.
3. When you are ready to confirm, please go to admit. washington.edu/MyUWDecision and follow the directions there.
4. You may also use the online system to decline the offer of admission.
To Confirm by Mail
Complete and mail the following three items to the University in the envelope addressed to Registrar's Mail Services:
1. Enrollment Confirmation Form
2. Payment Checklist
3. Either the $250 NSEOF or a completed NSEOF deferral request
Please refer to each form for complete instructions.
Important: Paying or requesting a deferral of the NSEOF is the only way to confirm your enrollment at the University of Washington Seattle. Signing up for or accepting participation in other UW Seattle programs (such as on-campus housing, University Honors, financial aid, or ROTC) does not confirm your enrollment at this campus.
If I have financial difficulties, are there options for me?
If you are financially unable to pay the NSEOF when you are offered admission, you may request a NSEOF deferral. Requests are individually evaluated and granted based upon financial need. If your NSEOF deferral request is approved, the due date for the fee will coincide with the due date for your first tuition payment, the third Friday of autumn quarter. If your deferral request is denied, you will be sent notification from the University and instructed to pay the NSEOF.
If your deferral request is denied, your admission to the University is not confirmed until the NSEOF is received and processed.
To apply for a fee deferral, you must confirm your enrollment by mail. You cannot confirm using the online system.
1. Check the "NSEOF Deferral Requested" field on the Payment Checklist enclosed with this Welcome packet.
2. Write a letter to the Office of Admissions that outlines the reason for the deferral request. Please be sure to date your letter and to include your printed name, your signature, UW Student Number, and phone number.
3. Send the Payment Checklist, the deferral request letter, and all other applicable materials and payments in the envelope addressed to Registrar's Mail Services.
If your deferral request is approved, the NSEOF becomes a debt you owe the University, regardless of whether or not you enroll.
How do I confirm my spot at the UW?
1. Complete and return the following items to the University of Washington in the envelope addressed to Registrar's Mail Services:
The Enrollment Confirmation Form. Please refer to the form for complete instructions.
The Payment Checklist (Form 1). Please include any fees in addition to the NSEOF (i.e. Outdoor, Off-site, or Family Orientation).
Measles Immunity Verification Form. NOTE: You must send this form to Hall Health Immunization no later than two weeks before your A&0 session. If your measles paperwork is not processed before the date of your A&O session, you will be blocked from registration.
2. Check the status of your NSEOF payment on MyUW. It may take some time for your information to be processed after you mail it.
3. Once your NSEOF payment has been processed, sign-up for your Advising and Orientation session. The only way to sign up for your session is online. For incoming freshmen, it is strongly encouraged that your parents or gaurdians sign up for a Parent Orientation. Make sure to ask your family whether they would like to attend. If so, you may register them for a program at the same time you register for yours.
If you have questions or problems with signing up for your Advising and Orientation session, please verify that your NSEOF payment has been received and processed by the University (check the MyUW website), then contact First Year Programs (FYP) at fyp@u.washington.edu or (206) 543-4905. FYP staff will help solve your problems or answer any questions!
How do I know you received my NSEOF?
After your payment has been received, you will be sent a formal acknowledgement and an initial Private Access Code (PAC) for establishing your UW NetID and University-supported email account. That is how you will know your payment was received. Students will also be able to confirm their payment was received by logging onto their MyUW page.
Who can I talk to if I have questions about payment of the NSEOF?
As a service to all new students, First Year Programs staff are on hand to answer questions and concerns regarding anything about your transition to the UW — including the fee and what it involves. Give us a call at (206) 543-4905. Outside business hours, leave a message and we will call you back the next business day.
