Getting Started at the University of Washington

To begin, choose the quarter you plan to start your studies at the University:

Autumn 2009

Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of Washington. Once you have confirmed your enrollment, your next step is to get acquainted with your new community. You'll first explore your new community when you participate in a Advising & Orientation session. All entering students are required to participate.

You should choose a session that fits your schedule. At your Advising and Orientation session, you will learn about degree requirements, talk with current students, learn about the campus, and register for your first quarter classes.

"What should I study at the UW? How do I get my Husky ID card? What classes should I take? How do I enroll in classes?"

These are common questions asked by new students, and your Orientation session will help you find the answers. You will also:

  • Register for your first quarter classes.
  • Take part in academic advising and class registration.
  • Meet other entering students as well as current students on our staff known as Orientation Leaders.
  • Talk with UW staff including academic advisers.
  • Learn about degree requirements and the registration process.
  • Get a preview of all the opportunities that await you.
