Host Defense

The Gale Lab is working to define the molecular mechanisms by which cells sense virus infection and signal the immune response.

The RIG-I-like receptor pathway discriminates self from non-self to detect virus infection and initiate the immune response.

Inflammation is a major contributor to viral disease. The Gale Lab is engaged in studies to define molecular mechanisms of hepatic inflammation that occurs during the course of hepatitis C infection.
