About the Summer Institutes

The University of Washington State GEAR UP Project offers Summer Institutes serving students from 12 school districts in Washington State. The goal of the Summer Institutes is to encourage students to succeed in high school and support them in preparing for college.  Summer Institutes provide a unique opportunity for students to experience life on a college campus.   In 2008 we will host over 400 students on the UW campus. 

While at the University of Washington, students:

* Attend academic seminars taught by University of Washington faculty members
* Receive mentoring from undergraduate group leaders
* Learn about career and educational possibilities
* Engage in career and college planning activities
* Develop friendships with college bound peers
* Tour the campus, live in residential halls, eat in college restaurants
