Rebecca H. Johnson, MD, is medical director of the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) oncology program at Seattle Children’s Hospital and assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Her medical training includes Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Pediatric Oncology, and Clinical Genetics. She holds a joint appointment in the Division of Genetics, where she cares for families with genetic predisposition to cancer.

Her research interests include health services research in Adolescent and Young Adult oncology, fertility preservation, and clinical cancer genetics. She is interested in the use of new media to facilitate education, psychosocial support and medication adherence in AYA oncology patients. She has studied the effectiveness of a new, multidisciplinary sperm banking program at Seattle Children’s oncology program, analyzed referral patterns of teenagers to pediatric vs. adult oncology cancer treatment centers in Washington State, and demonstrated the feasibility of assessing quality of life in AYA cancer patients using tablet computers. She is participating in a study to investigate the relationship between age, gene expression signature and treatment modality on the survival of adolescent and young adult women with breast cancer. Johnson is the Medical Co-Chair of the Steering Committee for the Lance Armstrong Young Adult Alliance, Head of the Breast Cancer Biology Subcommittee of the Lance Armstrong Young Adult Alliance, and a founding member of the NCI-Designated Cancer Centers Working Group for AYA Oncology.
