Homework 6 Genetics 453 due February 23

  1. What happened in the course of evolution of these three species?

  2. An inversion heterozygote has two crossing over events in the loop structure. What do the four segregating chromatides look like in inversion heterozygotes with (A) a paracentric inversion (see figure)? (B) A pericentric inversion (move the centromers between gene D and E)? Write down the 4 resulting chromatids. Mark the chromatids that have deficiences or duplications and also explain.

  3. A translocation heterozygote has a single cross over event (choose an interesting position on the chromosome), what are the outcomes? Remember segregation of a tetrad is a 3-dimensional phenomenon.
