Research Interests

As an ALVA intern during the summer of 2008, Cynthia studied appendicitis in the Department of Surgery at Harborview Medical Center. The purpose of her study was to determine if differences in genetic make-up play a role in the severity of the body's inflammatory response in cases of appendicitis. Her goal was to examine new patient findings and compare them to previous research in an attempt to identify new associations.

Cynthia continued on as an undergraduate researcher following her time in ALVA. As an undergraduate she is working in the Urdahl Lab in the Department of Immunology throughout the academic year. In the summer of 2010, she was selected to take part in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) at the University of Washington.
