Undergraduate Research

GenOM offers two different undergraduate research experiences; one during the academic year, and a second summer program open to undergraduates from other institutions.

The undergraduate research program that runs throughout the academic year is a rare and wonderful opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of Washington. The program offers a first-hand, quality experience in the laboratory of an established researcher, providing opportunities to probe deeper into the cutting-edge science of genomics over an academic year. We seek talented students who demonstrate a strong drive and deep interest in this field. Through the program, students receive the following benefits:

  • A part-time paid position
  • A network of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students
  • Preparation for graduate/professional-level programs of study

If you are interested in applying for the Undergraduate Research Program, download an application and follow the instructions.

Undergraduate Summer Research Program

Students in the Undergraduate Summer Research Program will receive a salary and are limited to 40 hours/week. The program will begin June 22, 2009 and end August 21, 2009. If you are living out of state and require travel/housing assistance, please inquire. Students in schools on the semester system should contact the director about the possibility of beginning early. For University of Washington students, the program can be extended to September 30, 2009. $500 travel stipends are available for presenting work at national conferences.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2009.
