Geography’s Prof. Mark Ellis is new CSDE Director

Congratulations to Professor Mark Ellis, new CSDE Director!

Professor Mark Ellis (with Richard Wright of Dartmouth) had been awarded a $414k National Science Foundation Grant for a 3.5 year project on US Immigrant Geographies and the Recession. Ellis, who is immediate past Director of the UW’s Center For the Study of Demography and Ecology (CSDE), also announced a $588k grant from the National Institute For Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). The grant is oriented to building spatial analysis and GIS capacity at CSDE.

From the CSDE website:

Please join us in welcoming Mark Ellis as the new CSDE Director. Mark, whose five-year term began on September 1st, has been an important contributor to the demographic research community at UW and to CSDE leadership, having served as Director (2008-09), Training Director, and as a member of the Executive Committee. We look forward to an exciting and fruitful term under the leadership of Mark and Sara Curran, who is continuing her service as Associate Director.
