Nature-society relations are constructed by and through social, cultural, economic, political and ecological processes that are constituted across scales, regions and places. Geographers at UW examine these dynamic, changing and multiple relations through related themes such as development, globalization, health, environmental change and sustainability. Investigating nature-society relations includes grappling with questions of access, mobility, ethics, responsibility and justice. We ask how nature-society relations shape, and are shaped by, the multiplicity of human experience and expression in its interactions with nature.
