Consider what skills and abilities

Skills and abilities developed in this focus include:
- understanding and using the geographical concepts of scale, space
and time, globalization and ecosystems in analyzing society-environment
relations
- designing projects, conducting analysis, interpreting data and balancing
knowledge and opinion, so as to participate in environmental decision-making
- engaging in contemporary debates on environmental change and environmental
management and regulatory approaches by domestic, state, agricultural,
industrial and service sectors
- understanding and critically evaluating the philosophical underpinnings
of health and environmental social movements and interest groups
- gathering data, processing, analysis and evaluation
- analysis and problem solving
- project management and presentation
The background and skills developed in this focus are in demand by state
and federal agencies, as well as non-governmental agencies and privately-owned
consulting firms and other research-oriented organizations.
Typical career work in this option can include:
- researcher/writer of environmental impact statements
- social services coordinator
- environmental project leader
- field organizer
- research project interviewer
- environment policy analyst
- GIS analyst/conservation biologist
- code enforcement officer
- manager, regulatory affairs
- community development specialist
- environmental health specialist
- project coordinator
- water quality technician
