German 100 - Course GoalsWelcome to Beginning German. It is never easy to learn a foreign language and it is not easy to learn German. We are, however, convinced that the learning of a foreign language--and the learning of German--is a worthwhile and rewarding experience. We believe that the primary goal of language instruction should be the development of communication. Through our approach we hope to achieve a high degree of interaction in the classroom and make your learning of German enjoyable. We would like to teach you how to communicate meaningfully in German from the very first moment and at the same time to understand better the culture, daily life, and attitudes of the German speaking peoples. We will teach you the language as it is spoken and written in Germany, Austria, and parts of Switzerland. We will give equal emphasis to all five language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. Textbooks
Homework and Attendance
It is simply not possible to make satisfactory progress in this or any other language course without punctual submission of assignments and thorough preparation for class. Because participation is an integral part of learning a foreign language, it is absolutely necessary that you attend class regularly, and absences will affect your final grade considerably. Tests or quizzes must be taken on dates and times indicated. Final Grade
