Bridging the Borders & Building Ties Between Aging & Cultural Diversity
BPD 2006 Gero-Ed Institute

Los Angeles, CA - October 25, 2006
Dr. Sadhna Diwan and Dean Gary Behrman

All accredited social work programs are required to address issues of diversity, yet few programs examine ageism and age differences when teaching diversity. Ironically, ageism is the one "ism" that all of us experience. This Institute allows participants to: articulate their experiences with aging; engage in an organizational assessment related to diversity of their program; examine exemplars of course syllabi; and recommend how their program or course syllabi could infuse age and ageism by identifying the intersections of age, race, gender and sexual orientation.
