The CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM) was held in San Antonio from November 6 through 9, 2009. The Gero-Ed Track covers issues related to aging and intergenerational social work research, policy, education and practice. The 3rd annual Gero-Ed Track Kick-Off, co-sponsored by the Institute for Geriatric Social Work at The Kick-Off also featured a trailer of the award-winning documentary The Way We Get By. This moving film, which has screened at numerous national and international film festivals and is now playing in select theatres across the country, was shown at the Gero-Ed Film Festival. CSWE Gero-Ed Center/AGE-SW Hot Topic Panel Building on the Gero-Ed Track social justice theme, the CSWE Gero-Ed Center/Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGE-SW) Hot Topic Panel further delved into how preparing communities for our aging society is a social justice issue. The panel was held Sunday, November 8 from 10:30–12:00 pm and featureed the following panelists: Nancy Kropf, Director of School and Professor, Georgia State University - Powerpoint Fourth Annual Gero-Ed Film Festival The Fourth Annual Gero-Ed Film Festival screened a variety of educational films, including products of the MAC Project's Gero Innovations Grant and the award-winning documentary The Way We Get By. Finding a Job: Aging Fields in High Demand The CSWE Gero-Ed Center hosted the CSWE Career Center Panel entitled Finding a Job: Aging Fields High in Demand, featuring a variety of speakers discussing different career options in direct practice with older adults, program management opportunities for working with elders, and what you can do with your doctorate. The Eldercare Workforce Alliance: An Initiative to Support Policy Change In response to the 2008 Institute of Medicine report highlighting the eldercare crisis, the Eldercare Workforce Alliance, composed of 25 national organizations, formed to propose solutions to strengthen the eldercare workforce, including social work. This panel session at APM presented information on this Alliance, key legislative and policy issues, and social work’s role within this Alliance. Presenters included: Nancy Hooyman - Co-Principal Investigator, CSWE Gero-Ed Center - Powerpoint Significant Lifetime Achievement Award in Social Work CSWE presented the Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Award to Nancy Hooyman, co-Principal Investigator of the CSWE Gero-Ed Center, at the 2009 APM in San Antonio.
