What is the Gero-Ed Track?
The Gero-Ed Track is the result of the CSWE Gero-Ed Center's own infusion efforts. Beginning with the 2007 CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM), gerontology will be integrated into the APM as the Gero-Ed Track. The Gero-Ed Center will oversee the Track and will continue to sponsor its most popular gerontology events. We consider the institutionalization of gerontology into the APM as a victory for gerontological social work education.

The following text is the official Gero-Ed Track Description:

The Gero-Ed Track, sponsored by the Hartford-funded CSWE Gero-Ed Center and the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work, recognizes the imperative to prepare social workers with competencies to enhance the health and well-being of older adults as well as their families and other informal caregivers. The Gero-Ed Track covers issues related to aging and intergenerational social work research, policy, education, and practice, which have implications across a range of practice and educational settings as well as nationally and internationally. The Gero-Ed Track provides an opportunity for faculty, students, field supervisors, and practitioners to disseminate and gain gerontological knowledge and skills.

Gero-Ed Track abstracts must clearly state the issue related to aging and older adults, demonstrate its importance to geriatric social work, advance the knowledge base of gerontological social work, demonstrate attention to issues of diversity, include evidence-based materials, and reference scholarly literature.

The Gero-Ed Track sponsors several popular events such as the Gero-Ed Track Kick-Off, Gero-Ed Film Festival, Hot Topic Panel, and career-based informational sessions for students interested in aging.

Visit the APM Track Descriptions on the CSWE Web site for more information.

How can I be a presenter at the Gero-Ed Track?
Persons interested in submitting an abstract to the Gero-Ed Track will submit abstracts according to the guidelines outlined in the CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM) Call for Presentations. This Call will be issued well in advance of the conference. Please check the Gero-Ed Center or CSWE Web site periodically for more information. Notice will also be sent out on various Listservs and in Aging Times.

All submitted abstracts undergo a rigorous peer-review process by experts in the field of gerontological social work. You will receive notice as soon as the review process is complete indicating whether your abstract was accepted.

Interested persons should read the Gero-Ed Track Description before submitting a proposal.
