American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA)

AAHSA is an association of not-for-profit or government-sponsored organizations dedicated to providing quality housing, health, community and related services to meet the needs of America’s diverse aging population. AAHSA has distinct and charitable roots - ethnic, religious or fraternal - and serves individuals of diverse backgrounds and needs.

 

American Geriatrics Society (AGS)

The premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults. With an active membership of over 6,000 health care professionals, the AGS has a long history of effecting change in the provision of health care for older adults. In the last decade, the Society has become a pivotal force in shaping attitudes, policies and practices regarding health care for older people.

 

American Public Health Association (APHA)

The oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over 50 occupations of public health. The Association and its members have been influencing policies and setting priorities in public health since 1872.

 

American Society on Aging (ASA)

The largest organization of professionals in the field of aging. The ASA site offers resources, publications, and educational opportunities, geared to enhance the knowledge and skills of people working with older adults and their families.

 

American Speech-Language Hearing Association

Articles related to speech, language, hearing of older adults; recommendations for communication.

 

Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA)

The largest association exclusively dedicated to the assisted living industry and the population it serves. ALFA represents over 5,000 for-profit and not-for-profit providers of assisted living as well as a diverse range of organizations involved in the assisted living industry. With 40 state affiliates nationwide, ALFA promotes the philosophy of consumer choice and quality of life for seniors.

 

Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors, Inc. (BPD)

 

An association of BSW Program Administrators, Faculty, Field Directors, and others dedicated to the promotion of excellence in baccalaureate social work education.

 

The Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGE-SW)

AGE-SW provides leadership and assistance to social work educational programs and professionals in order to advocate for the integration of gerontological content in undergraduate and social work education.

 

Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE)

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education is a membership organization of colleges and universities that offer education, training, and research programs in the field of aging.

 

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

The association of boards that regulate social work. ASWB develops and maintains the social work licensing examination used across the country, and is a central resource for information on the legal regulation of social work. ASWB can help individual social workers and social work students with questions they may have about licensing and the social work examinations.

 

Case Management Society of America

An international, non-profit organization dedicated to the support and development of the profession of case management through educational forums, networking opportunities and legislative involvement.

 

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

 

CSWE promotes and maintains the high quality of social work education and works to ensure the preparation of competent social work professionals by providing national leadership and a forum for collective action. In addition, CSWE strives to stimulate knowledge and curriculum development, to advance social justice, and to strengthen community and individual well-being.

Gerontological Society of America (GSA)

GSA provides researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers with opportunities to understand, advance, integrate, and use basic and applied research on aging to improve the quality of life as one ages.

 

Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR)

A freestanding, not-for-profit organization, IASWR serves the research needs of the entire social work profession. IASWR promotes social work research conducted under the auspices of other academic and professional organizations. IASWR does not conduct or fund social work research directly.

 

International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW)

An international association of institutions of social work education, organizations supporting social work education and social work educators. Annual conference for global social work.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Includes information for the general public

 

National Association of Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work (NADD)

NADD is a volunteer membership organization comprised of Deans and Directors of graduate social work programs and works to promote excellence in social work education by enhancing the leadership of social work education programs. NADD supports Deans and Directors in their professional development and effectiveness as academic administrators.

 

National Association of Geriatric Education Centers

Supports the national network of Geriatric Education Centers (GECs) dedicated to improving the education/training, supply, distribution and quality of health care professionals through strong community-academic partnerships.

 

National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (GCM)

An association of professional practitioners whose purpose is the development, advancement, and promotion of humane and dignified social, psychological, and health care for the elderly and their families through counseling, treatment, and the delivery of concrete services by qualified, certified providers.

 

National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

NASW, with over 155,000 members in 55 chapters, is the largest professional association of social workers in the United States. The association works to promote professional development, establish professional standards of social work practice and advance sound social policies. The NASW Web site also features "Help Starts Here," a page that contains information on the different ways social workers can help during the aging process.

 

The National Council on the Aging (NCOA) A national network of organizations and individuals dedicated to improving the health and independence of older persons; increasing their continuing contributions to communities, society and future generations; and building caring communities.
National Health Council

A private, nonprofit umbrella organization comprised of more than 100 national health-related organizations with a mission to promote the health of all people by advancing the voluntary health movement. This movement is driven by volunteers who as individuals, families, and communities work together toward the prevention, treatment, and cure of disease and disability.

 

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. The organization is committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care with the goal of profoundly enhancing quality of life for people dying in America and their loved ones.

 

Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR)

The Society for Social Work and Research is dedicated to advancing social work research and to assisting novice and experienced researchers in a variety of ways.

 

Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC)

An association, 1300 members strong, dedicated to promoting the universal availability, accessibility, coordination, and effectiveness of health care that addresses the psychosocial components of health and illness.

 

Southern Gerontological Society

A powerful network of the South's most respected gerontology professionals. Southern Gerontological Society members are educators, aging network personnel, researchers, health professionals, and policy makers alike.
