Elizabeth A. Phelan, M.D., M.S.
Biographical Information: Elizabeth A. Phelan, MD, MS, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Health Services at the University of Washington and Affiliate Investigator at the Group Health Research Institute. She is the foundng Director of the Fall Prevention Clinic at Harborview Medical Center, in continuous operation since 2005. She is a clinically active, fellowship-trained geriatrician who practices in both inpatient and outpatient settings and trains health sciences students in the care of the older adult.
Research Interest:: Dr. Phelan's research broadly aims to promote health and prevent functional decline of community-dwelling elders through improving the quality of care for geriatric syndromes (falls, dementia, depression). She has tested healthcare-system-embedded and community-based interventions of patient-centered health promotion programs and services for geriatric syndromes and has expertise in health outcomes assessment. She is a national authority on falls and fall prevention and worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries (STEADI) fall prevention tool kit for healthcare providers.
