Carolyn and Gerald Grinstein Endowed Professorship in Microbiology
The Carolyn and Gerald Grinstein Endowed Professorship in Microbiology was established in 2006 to enhance the University of Washington’s ability to attract and retain a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Microbiology, one who will make important research contributions to understand how bacteria cause disease. This research should lead to the development of more effective approaches for diagnosis and treatment of bacterial infection in chronic diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
This endowment is named for Carolyn and Gerald Grinstein, who have made extraordinary contributions to the University of Washington. Gerald Grinstein, strategic director of Madrona Investment Group, LLC, and former CEO of Delta Airlines, is vice chair of the UW Medicine Board and a member of UW Medicine’s Strategic Initiatives Committee. He co-chaired the University’s first major fund drive, 1988–1992, and served as the chair of the UW Foundation Board. Carolyn Grinstein currently serves as chair of the UW Foundation Board, and she was as a trustee at the Henry Art Gallery.
