Grace E. Hill Chair in Vision Research
The Grace E. Hill Chair in Vision Research was established in 2001 with a gift from the estate of Grace Hill.
Grace E. Hill was born in 1904, and she received a B.A. in general studies from the University of Washington in 1925. Her husband, Ray H. Hill, was born in 1900, and he received a B.A. in economics and business from the University of Washington in 1924.
Ray Hill had a successful career in the wholesale lumber business. During his lifetime, he made several gifts to the UW in support of eye disease studies; he died in 1991. Grace Hill continued her husband’s philanthropic efforts until her death in 1999.
The Hills also established the Ray H. Hill Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology.
