Herbert E. Coe Endowed Chair in Pediatric Surgery
When Robert C. Coe, M.D., and Josephine W. “Bobby” Coe sold their house in 2008, the sale was the completion of a long-held dream to create the Herbert E. Coe Endowed Chair in Pediatric Surgery. Herbert E. Coe was a ground-breaking pediatric surgeon, one with a 60-year affiliation with Seattle Children’s. When he died in 1968, Dr. Coe had served as Children’s chief of staff for 10 years and as the hospital’s surgical service chief and had done much to gain recognition for the field of pediatric surgery.
The Coes — and their friends and family — gave generously to establish the Coe Chair, a position that will be held by the chief of surgery at Seattle Children’s. The chair also will recognize the Coe family’s legacy to pediatric medicine.
