UW Medicine Distinguished Endowed Professorship in Lung Transplant Research

The UW Medicine Distinguished Endowed Professorship in Lung Transplant Research was established in 2007.

In spring 2007, Carol B. Milgard, a trustee of the Gary E. Milgard Foundation, received a lung transplant at UW Medical Center. Impressed by the transplant research efforts of her surgeon, Dr. Michael Mulligan, Mrs. Milgard made a commitment to support his work. Sadly, Mrs. Milgard — remembered as a dynamic, compassionate, gracious person — passed away a short time later from complications.

In creating the professorship, the Milgard family is honoring the memory of Mrs. Milgard, creating a legacy for lung transplant research and faculty recruitment and retention at UW Medicine, and giving hope to transplant patients and their families.
